The Author’s Secret Handshake
Of course, the only secret to an author’s success is to accept that it’s a difficult profession. Lonely, time-intensive, frustrating, low-paying, self-taught and self-directed. Success or failure depends on yourself alone. Sigh.
Which makes reaching out to fellow authors with, and for, support, information, comfort, celebration all the more critical to a healthy, nurturing work environment.
So, here I am, reaching out to take the hand of my colleagues, traditionally and self-published, print and e-published, long-time, multi-, pre- and unpublished. I offer the writing tips and tools and techniques that have helped me along my journey.
Get it down. Take chances. It may be bad, but it’s the only way you can do anything really good.
– William Faulkner
